About Sidney Shiba Sensei

The Plano dojo provides instruction in the martial art of Japanese Aikido. The dojo is headed by Sidney Shiba, 3rd Dan who is committed to teaching the principles of harmony and non-violence that have made Aikido one of the most popular and enjoyable martial arts to study.

Aikido of Plano is one of several DFW Aikido dojo in which Bob Mason, 4th Dan, Shidoin serves as chief instructor. Aikido was founded by Morihei Ueshiba whose vision of harmony and oneness with the universe is kept alive by the ongoing commitment of Aikido practitioners. Yoshimitsu Yamada, 8th Dan, Shihan, a direct student of Morihei Ueshiba, came to the United States in the 1960s and is current director of the United States Aikido Federation, in which all DFW Aikido dojo enjoy membership.

Aikido of Plano is pleased to announce the opening of its facility at the University Gymnastics center. The dojo offers the local community a comfortable and fun recreational environment in which to practice or discover, for the first time, the rewards of Aikido. There are two scheduled practices each week on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Several additional practices are held at the DFW Aikido Dallas dojo throughout the week. The decision to participate in any martial art should not be taken lightly. A commitment to physical and spiritual well being should blend with one’s values, beliefs and physical abilities. Aikido instruction simply serves to guide the student on a multi-level path of self-discovery.

The Plano dojo is a non-profit organization, which is dedicated to the instruction and philosophy of Aikido. Due to its non-competitive nature many will find it to be both a results driven workout and spiritually liberating.
